The latest on the flood damage in California

A major flood threat is threatening the lives of hundreds of thousands of people in California and many areas in the Southwest, according to officials.

At least seven people were killed and several were missing in an overnight landslide in the Los Angeles area, authorities said.

The area was hit by several landslides overnight, the Los Gatos Fire Department said in a statement late Wednesday.

More: The area is now under mandatory evacuation orders.

More than 1,000 homes were damaged, according with the National Weather Service.
